Create a sacred space for healing in your home

My Sacred Space

There is no time like the present to allow time and space for self care.
When you create this place in your home, it reminds you of the importance of this practice and encourages you to take a moment to allow your spirit to replenish, refuel and just breathe.

Putting together a sacred space to heal your energy, meditate and give gratitude may be even easier than you think. You don’t need to add on a new room to your house or even clear out an existing one. In fact, you might already have a spot like this in your home and just not realize it.
Here are a few simple steps to creating this space dedicated to whatever mindful practice you need…

  1. Location, location, location!
Finding the right space in your home doesn’t have to be difficult. A sacred space should have a collection of things you love, are inspired by and bring you a sense of peace and calm.
If you think about it, you may already have a space (or many) like this and not realize it. When I began to collect all the items I wanted to incorporate into my sacred space, I discovered that I already had them in one spot… my nightstand! For you this might be a desk, dresser, side table etc…
Whatever it might be, I encourage you to make it a spot that you see or walk by everyday to help remind you to take some time out for yourself.
  2. Cleanse the space
Cleaning the space literally and energetically will not only refresh the area but set its intention as your sacred space. Use your favorite energy clearing tools or see my DIY: 3 Easy Ways to Clean the Energy in Your Space blog post.
Cleanse the area in this way as often as you see fit.
  3. These are a few of my favorite things
Be open to what you are guided to incorporate and allow room for your sacred space to grow over time. For now, start with some of your favorite items. These things can have sentimental value, help you meditate, inspire you, make you smile etc…

Here are a few of my favorite things in my sacred space:
-A rock from the house I grew up in
-Picture of my favorite city in the world that I would like to visit again soon
    -Virgin Mary candle holder
    -Pictures of loved ones passed
    -Essential oils
    -LOTS of healing crystals!
Whatever you gather, take time to arrange each piece just the way you like- even using a beautiful cloth to set them on. When adding each item, take a moment to honor it’s meaning and it’s intention in your space. Will you use it to help you meditate, gather strength or inspire you? The possibilities are endless!
  4. Use it!
So now what? Get a pillow or something comfortable to sit on and enjoy it.
Some ideas for things to do in this space:
    -Meditate
    -Listen to music
    -Light a candle
    -Burn sage or incense
    -Pray
    -Give gratitude
    -Set intentions
    -Read
    -Breathe
I invite you to spend as much time in this space as you feel comfortable- perhaps once a week or a few moments each day. No matter what, know that the intention for healing has been set whenever you decide to use it.
    Other tips…
Consider taking a few items from your sacred space with you when you travel. This is a great way to continue your practice wherever you are and surround yourself with those things that refuel you.
Allow this space to change over time. Some of the things that started out on my nightstand have been moved or given to friends and family as it has evolved. Who knows- maybe someday your sacred space will end up being a whole room! In the meantime, have fun and be creative with it!
