Have you ever wondered what Reiki is, where it comes from or how it works???
Well, you’re in luck! Here is a list of frequently asked Reiki questions. I complied these answers based on the way this energy flows to me intuitively and what was passed down to me by my Reiki Master.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions that aren’t answered here!
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is a combination of two Japanese words “rei” and “ki” meaning universal life energy.
In my own words, Reiki is all of the beautiful love, light and healing energy of the universe. It is infinite. I use Reiki, combined with my intuitive abilities, to help clients relax, mediate, and improve the flow of energy in the body to aid physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing.
What are the origins of Reiki?
The Reiki system of natural healing was founded in the early 1900’s by Japanese born Buddhist monk, Dr. Mikao Usui. While Reiki is not a religion, Mikao Usui recommended that one must practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.
How did you learn to do Reiki?
I have been attuned to receive and send this energy by a Reiki Master. While there are many forms of natural energy healing, my lineage is in the Usui Method of Reiki. All healers use life force or “ki” but not all use Reiki. Reiki can only be channeled by someone that has been attuned to it. There are 3 levels of attunement for receiving and sending this energy to others- Reiki Master being the highest level.
How does it work?
The Reiki energy flows from the palms of my hands to the affected parts of your energy field, sending positive light and healing to those areas. Reiki raises the vibration in and around your physical body to help balance and release what no longer serves you.
What happens during and in- person Reiki session?
Each session includes a short consultation to clarify any current pain or energetic blocks you might be feeling so that I can better address your needs. This is followed by a Reiki session including healing crystals and essential oils for extra healing goodness and relaxation. During this session clients lie down, fully clothed, as I work through each of the 7 energy centers in your body, called chakras. As Reiki flows, my hands might be on, over, or around you depending on where the energy is most needed. After that, remaining time is devoted to discussing any intuitive information I received to help you on your path.
How does a distance session work?
Reiki flows where intention goes! Reiki practitioners can supply healing energies where they are most needed- this includes across all space and time, past, present and future. This energy can also be infused into any object, making it charged with Reiki. In this case, the intention is set so that the client will receive Reiki each time the object is held or touched to promote continued healing, self-care and meditation.
How will the Reiki energy make me feel?
Each Reiki session is different and serves whatever is in your highest and best good at that time. During the session most people feel deep relaxation and meditation. Some people even fall asleep. No matter what, it is a way to rebalance and cleanse your energy. Afterwards, depending on the circumstances, most people feel lighter while others feel more at ease, energetic, clear-minded or grounded.
One of the best comments I received from a client was…
“I am feeling lighter and better. My right shoulder pain doesn’t ‘remind’ me of the past anymore.”
How long do the effects of Reiki last?
It varies. This can depend partially on the state of the person when the session was received. In other words, if you are generally well, a Reiki session might last a week or more. If you are suffering from illness or chronic pain, or are in emotional distress, Reiki healings will be most beneficial if they are given more frequently. This can mean a couple times per week, once a week, or once a month. Reiki is also useful in times of transition to help remove any energetic blocks so that your path forward can be seen more clearly. In this case, its influence can have lasting effects.
Are there side effects?
Some people may feel light headed as their energy becomes more grounded. This feeling is like coming back to land after a long trip at sea- it may take you some time to get your sea legs adjusted back to terra firma. Also, since I can sometimes feel pain/ soreness not yet at the surface, you might feel a few aches and pains as this tension leaves your physical body in the days following a session. I encourage you to drink lots of water and focus on your breathing to help these feelings, toxins and emotions flush away more easily.
Should I stop seeing my doctor?
Reiki is NOT a substitute for medical advice or medicine. However, as it is pure love energy, it IS the perfect complement to traditional medicine. In addition, Reiki has been found to be very calming and reassuring for those suffering from severe or fatal conditions and can be used to bring deeper caring and help facilitate inner peace.
